Hinayana or Hinayana Orthodoxy is a term applied the movement seen as giving priority to authoritarian exclusive beliefs and practices.
The term Hinayana was originally used pejoratively by the Mahayana but was then taken up the school as a way to distinguish themselves from the more inclusive wing. The term means "lesser vehicle" in an ancient tongue.
